Garden furniture

If you are preparing to buy garden or patio furniture, you have choices. Plastic or stone furniture are popular choices, but wood furniture seems to suit most people quite nicely.

Although using wood garden furniture is a good idea, there are many different kinds of wood that can be used to create furniture. The following paragraphs discuss a few of the more popular types of wood used to make furniture.

• Alder – Alder is one of the harder woods that is valued for its strength and durability. It looks nice in its natural state, which is an attractive honey color, but it also can easily be stained to create a different look.

• Brazilian cherry – Brazilian cherry wood is popular due to its density and natural weather resistance. In addition to being used in garden furniture, Brazilian cherry is also used in things like decking and playground equipment. It has even been known to have been used for railroad ties. Brazilian cherry furniture is a good choice for durability, because it should last up to 25 years or more.

• Cedar – Cedar is certainly one of the optimal choices for garden furniture. One of the great things about cedar is that it is naturally resistant to damage from insects. It also resists a lot of weather and decay damage that often hurt other types of wood.

After time, cedar wood turns from what initially is a creamy white or tan gold color into a more silvery, grayish hue. If you make garden furniture from this wood, it should last for a generation.
